Lincoln Elementary School in SE Evanston is one of ten public elementary schools in District 65 that serves the Evanston area community. They have a lovely school garden filled with flowers (looks like native pollinators to me), vegetables (i spotted, arugula, swiss chard, lettuce, strawberries, tomatoes and perhaps more!) There are two fruit trees and a total of 6 raised beds that kids get to enjoy viewing the fruits of their labor. This gardening privilege is parent driven all volunteer based with the “buy-in” of some teachers and the principal that encourages hands on learning. When my youngster attended the school i was a parent “helper” that would encourage kids to get their hands dirty- YES our food comes from here BEFORE it gets in the supermarket! Its amazing how many children don’t get this exposure and the visitors that come by- they’ve had baby bunnies nest in the strawberries! Enjoy the photos! Located at the NW Corner of Main and Forest Avenue in Evanston 60202.
